This the is Frequently Asked Questions page for Anytime Fitness Whangarei.
It contains information on the how the club operates and answers to most frequent concerns people have when they consider signing up for gym access.
It is worth noting that our club operates as a franchise of the Anytime Fitness group which has clubs all over the world and has developed a seamless operation through years of direct experience operating a 24/7 fitness service.
Because of this, we benefit from all they have learned and we operate according to the best practices they have established.
What support do you offer to assist me in reaching my goals?
When you join our club at Anytime Fitness Whangarei the amount you pay is for the 24 hour access to the club alone, plus you receive an introductory session to familiarize you with the equipment and the layout of the club. Because everyone who joins us on their health & fitness journey may be at different stages of their development, and possess varying levels of knowledge, a one size fits all approach does not work here.
So in favour of keeping the gym rates lower we now make fitness coaches available for those who require them on a pay per use system. If you are serious about getting results, you will probably need to invest a little into having a coach get you going in the right direction, just as you would for any other new sport or activity.
If I was to visit the club at night, what safety measures are there in place?
Security is, at all times, extremely important for the safety of our members. The entire club is under constant surveillance. The entrance way also has an alarm on it to alert us if more than one person comes in on one key card entry swipe. Other features include the defibrillator, in case of someone having a heart problem during a session. In addition to that there are emergency buttons located around the gym, plus wearable necklace buttons to alert security and receive assistance within minutes of an event.
The changing rooms and showers are set out in a way that only one person can use each one at a time. This means there are no common areas within the club that are not under surveillance.
Is there parking?
Yes we have ample car parking available for our members while they are attending the club.
When can I use the sauna and sun tannings facilities?
The facilities at Anytime Fitness Whangarei, at present, can only be used during our staffed hours which are outlined on the Home page of this site. Generally these are the hours between 8am and 5pm.
What changing and shower facilities do you have at Anytime Fitness Whangarei?
Currently we have 1 shower & toilet, 2 toilets, and 2 showers. These are all unisex, lockable cubicles so that there is only one individual in a cubicle at a time for security reasons. We are in the midst of adding to this with 1 more shower & toilet, 1 more shower only, plus 2 change only cubicles complete with GHD hair straighteners and hair dryers.
Do you have a women-only area within the club? Do women need a separate area?
In the past we have implemented a separate women-only area, but we felt it to be unnecessary for the new Anytime Fitness Whangarei club.
One of the reasons for this is that this club does not get during busy during peak times as we have seen in the past. This is due to the extended opening hours (24 hour access). Also the way we have set the club out, women tend to stay up the front of the club more on the weight machines and cardio, whereas the men tend to migrate towards the back of the club where the free weights are.
Also it is worth noting that everyday life is not segregated in this manner – there are no women-only swimming pools or women-only workstations at work. Some would consider that as being sexist. Why should a gym be any different?
Can my friends or family use my key card, or come in with me on mine?
Absolutely not. It is imperative for the security of the club and for our other paying members that we know who is in the club at all times.
There are heavy consequences for those who attempt to abuse the system, such as having your key disabled but still being liable for the full amount of the membership to be paid plus being debited for the casual sessions of the non-members. If you know someone who maybe keen on using the club, simply get in contact with us and we can easily arrange a free trial if need be.
Do you have aerobics classes etc?
We stopped offering these classes at our old gym in the late 1980′s. The reason for this was that we wished to move with the times and focus more on helping people reach their health and fitness goals. Aerobics, as fun as it can be at times, unfortunately is not the most effective way in which to do stay healthy and “in shape”. Experience has taught us that we ALL need to strength train (i.e. perform weight bearing exercise) and to do this in a group format is not all that safe for the members. Form needs to be checked and corrected by our fitness professionals, and the best way to do this is one-on-one.
Why do you have a pie shop next to a gym?
When we moved down from the World of Fitness in Bank Street we decided to focus on the priority which is for us, is the smooth operation of the club. Things like the cafe we ran where great for the members but consistently ran at a loss and sometimes created un-needed headaches.
Jodie who has been one of our loyal members for years, at the time owned Regency Pies in Kamo and Maunu, and was looking to expand into the CBD so it made perfect sense to offer her the space in the new club and all of our shake, healthy wraps and baking recipes to continue the valuable service to our members. So you see, despite the name, it is not just a pie shop!
Our ever popular protein / healthy shakes etc, are now available at the café next door. One of our long term members was looking to expand her already successful business and loved the idea of adding the healthy food to her line up to offer to the gym members. As we all should know, good healthy eating plays a major roll in allowing people to achieve optimal health.
Is there somewhere I can leave my bike while attending the club?
Bikes can be chained to the hand railings just outside the front entrance, in the carpark.
